In short
On Just Singles the ID check is optional. A member uploads a photo ID and takes a selfie, the check is carried out by LEM Verify, and if it matches, their profile shows an ID-checked badge. The badge confirms who someone is. It doesn't confirm their age as stated, job, relationship status or anything else they write.
| Is it required? | Optional for most members; required for some sign-ups (for example through a VPN, or a flagged account) |
|---|---|
| What you need | A photo ID and a live selfie |
| Who checks it | LEM Verify, an identity verification provider |
| What you get | An ID-checked badge on your profile |
| Cost | A small one-off fee, shown on our prices page |
The ID check exists for one reason: so you can see who has shown they are the person in their photos. It's the most useful single signal a dating profile can carry, and it's also easy to over-read. This page covers both.
What the ID check is
The ID check is an optional identity check that a member can add to their profile. You upload a photo of an identity document and take a live selfie. The check is carried out by LEM Verify, an identity verification company, which compares your face with the photo on the document. If they match, your profile gets an ID-checked badge that other members can see.
The check is optional for most members. It's required for some sign-ups: for example, if someone joins through a VPN, or if an account has been flagged.
How to add it
- Log in to the members area and start the ID check.
- Photograph your ID document, following the on-screen guidance.
- Take the selfie when asked. Good light and a plain background help.
- Wait for the result. When the check is complete, the badge appears on your profile.
It's a small one-off extra; the price is on our prices page. If the check fails, retake the photos in better light before contacting the help centre.
What the badge proves, and what it doesn't
This is the part most people skip, and it's the part that matters.
| The badge means | The badge doesn't mean |
|---|---|
| The member matched a photo ID to a live selfie | They are single |
| The face in the selfie belonged to a real person at the time | Their age, job or location is as written |
| They were willing to be identified | They are kind, honest or safe to meet |
So an ID-checked member is someone who has made themselves accountable in a way a fake profile usually won't. That's valuable. It isn't a character reference.
Why it matters on a site for people who are actually single
Just Singles exists for people who are single and serious enough to show it. No site can check relationship status, so we won't pretend to. What we can do is give you tools that make honesty easy to show and dishonesty harder to hide:
- Every photo is reviewed before it goes live (how photo review works).
- The ID check lets members prove they are who their photos say.
- Report and block from any profile or conversation.
Together they shift the odds. Someone who is attached and "just looking", or someone running a scam, has every reason to stay vague and unidentifiable. Someone who is genuinely available usually has no problem with a badge, a video call or meeting in public.
If someone has no badge
No badge doesn't mean fake. The check is optional and some people haven't got round to it. You can still get most of the same reassurance yourself:
- Ask for a short video call before you meet. Our guide on why a video call comes first explains how to suggest it.
- Watch for the signs in our guide to spotting a fake or scam profile.
- Notice how they respond to a simple, friendly request to be identified. Hesitation, endless excuses or anger tell you more than any badge.
Your privacy
Other members see the badge, never your document. The check is handled under the members-area privacy policy, which explains how identity data is processed and kept.
Questions people ask
Does the badge mean the person is single?
No. The badge confirms that the member is the person in their photo ID. Nobody can check relationship status, and no dating site can honestly claim to. What the badge does is make it much harder to hide behind someone else's face or a made-up name, which is where a lot of dishonesty online starts.
Should I avoid people without a badge?
No. The check is optional, and plenty of genuine people simply haven't added it. Treat the badge as a plus, not a pass. Without one, a short video call before you meet does a similar job: it shows you that the person matches their photos.
Can I see someone's ID or real name?
No. The ID document goes to the verification provider for the check; it isn't shown to other members. Other members see the badge, not your document.
Why was I asked to do the ID check when I joined?
The check is required for some sign-ups, for example when someone joins through a VPN or an account has been flagged. Complete it, or contact the help centre if something goes wrong, rather than opening a second account.
How much does it cost?
It's a small one-off extra. The current price is in the table on our prices page, and the members area shows the exact price before you pay.
